Skyler L. Roley, age 19, of Dieterich has been sentenced to 24 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections for two counts of Attempt Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Aggravated Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Peace Officer in Shelby County case number 17-CF-117.

On December 23, Chief Zachary Sarver of the Cowden Police Department saw a car traveling westbound on East Locust Street in Cowden. The vehicle turned northbound onto Illinois Route 128 and accelerated rapidly. Chief Sarver activated his hand-held radar and it indicated that the vehicle was traveling 45 miles per hour as it passed Elm Street, which is a posted 35 miles-per-hour zone. Chief Sarver attempted to catch up to the vehicle as it turned eastbound onto County Highway 300 North Road. He caught up to the vehicle as it turned northbound onto 1600 E. Road. Chief Sarver activated his emergency lights to indicate a traffic stop, but the vehicle accelerated and did not stop. He turned on his audible siren, but the vehicle still did not stop. Chief Sarver followed the vehicle and at times it was traveling over 80 miles per hour. Two deputies and a K-9 unit with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the pursuit.

One of the deputies and K-9, while in their vehicle, were struck by the Defendant’s vehicle. Chief Sarver continued the pursuit until the suspect vehicle turned sharply into a residence yard, traveled behind the residence, continued westbound through a grassy field, rammed through a drainage ditch and came to a complete stop. Two occupants from the vehicle, later identified as Alishia Brown and Jordan Kollman, ran from the scene. They were later caught and charged with Resisting a Peace Officer. Chief David Baumgarten with the Stewardson Police Department assisted with the arrest of Alishia Brown. The driver of the vehicle, Roley, would not give his name or answer any questions. A loaded shotgun was found in the vehicle as well as an unloaded rifle. Roley was placed under arrest and taken to the Shelby County Detention Center along with Brown and Kollman.
