Peggy Bueker has been named Interim Athletic Director at Altamont Community High School.

Bueker was chosen Monday by the Altamont School Board. She succeeds the late Todd Arnold.

Board members also retained the Illinois Association of School Boards to conduct a superintendent search at a cost not to exceed $6,900. Superintendent Jeff Fritchtnitch is departing the district June 30 to become superintendent of the Mt. Vernon school district.

The Altamont board also approved a maternity leave for Kelsey Burrow, and approved Trenton Deadmond as volunteer coach for high school boys and girls track.

Board members set high school graduation for 7pm on May 19, and approved an intergovernmental agreement with Regional Safe Schools and Regional Alternative Schools for alternative education for next school year.

The Board heard that a new Next Generation device has been identified and bid specs have been created. Board members will review the bids, and also decide how to pay for the devices. The current devices are being leased, and may be purchased outright to use at the lower grade levels.

Problems with the handles on the locker room doors were discussed. Replacement of the handles will take place as soon as possible, rather than waiting until summertime.

High school principal Jerry Tkachuk reported that high school staff members will meet Friday with junior high staff members to discuss alignment and curriculum issues.

The Altamont girls basketball team was commended for having won the National Trail Conference regular season championship and the conference tournament championship for the first time in schol history.
