The Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education Monday acted on several personnel matters, and a student expulsion.

The Board voted to expel a student through the end of the 2018-2019 school year, and referred the student to alternative education.

Regarding personnel, the Board accepted Derek Logue's resignation as a teacher and as defensive coordinator for the Hearts' football team. Logue was recently named the next varsity football coach at Heyworth, south of Bloomington. Resignations were also accepted from two nurse paraprofessionals, Hannah Michael and Melissa Koester.

The Board hired Kimberly Miller and Pam Baker as cafeteria monitors at the junior high school, and accepted the retirement of longtime Unit 40 bus driver Janet Inman, who has also been working as a cashier. Inman's retirement is effective in May.

Unit 40 board members also tabled the matter of a lease agreement for a mail machine.
