St. Anthony Scores Division Regional Win at WYSE Competition

The WYSE team from St. Anthony High School scored a division win at regional competition at Lake Land College.

WYSE is the acronym for World Wide Youth in Science and Engineering and is a competitive series of tests offered to high school students in Illinois and Missouri. The tests are now offered by more than 50 community colleges and universities. Test material is drawn from senior high school and freshman level college curricula. 

Written by teams of college and university faculty, subjects include Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering Graphics, English, Mathematics, and Physics.

Divisions are based on school population. St. Anthony took first place in the 300 Division. Cumberland finished second in the division, Cumberland second, Okaw Valley third, Dieterich fourth, and Neoga fifth.

Among the St. Anthony competitors, Maryann Saba took first place in Biology and received a $1,000 Lake Land College tuition waiver. Ethan Rozene finished first in Math and also won the Lake Land tuition waiver. Suhyun Moon finished tied for first in Chemistry. Other St. Anthony top finishes...in Biology, Alex Beesley finished second and Carly Spraul third...in Chemistry, Katie Kabbes finished in a third place tie...in Engineering Graphics, Aidan Bailey finished third...in Math, Ian Copple finished in a third place tie...and in Physics, Ian Copple finished second and Ethan Rozene finished third.

St. Anthony team members are Aidan Bailey, Alex Beesley, Saidee Bushur, Olivia Clausius, Ian Copple, Katie Kabbes, Suhyun Moon, Jack Nuxoll, Ethan Rozene, Maryann Saba, Carly Spraul, McKenna Steineman, Bryson Wall, Ava Wegman, and alternates John Hartke and Sophie Moore,

St. Anthony now advances to Sectional competition on March 8 at Eastern Illinois University. The State competition will take place on April 18 at the University of Illinois.
