For Illinois Farm Bureau transportation experts Kevin Rund and Kirby Wagner, hitting the road at this time of year to talk trucking regulations with farmers is as familiar as driving around the block.

They’re touring Illinois again this winter for an extensive schedule of On the Road seminars hosted by county Farm Bureaus throughout the state.

“We talk about the rules and regulations that farmers need to know when they take their trucks and farm equipment on the road,” said Rund about the agenda for the seminars.

“Typically, we cover the rules that are new to farmers out there, and we’ve got a few of those this year that we’ll talk about,” he continued. “But in addition, we go back and take another look at the existing rules.”

Rund, who serves as IFB’s senior director of local government, said the most valuable portion of the seminars is usually the Q&A.

“We know that there are still some misunderstandings about those things out there, so we’ll cover some of the basics, particularly with the CDL and the concept of interstate commerce,” he said. “It’s still confusing to folks.”

The seminars last two hours and are free, courtesy of your county Farm Bureau. The Effingham County presentation will be held on February 26 at 7pm at the Farm Bureau office on Evergreen Avenue in Effingham.

"We cover most of the things that farmers encounter out there on the road," said Wagner, IFB's director of transportation and local government. "There's a lot of additional information that some of the commercial truckers encounter that we don't fully go into detail on, but it's definitely informational."
