Two people were injured in a crash Wednesday morning near the Cross at the Crossroads.

State police say a car driven by 20-year-old Justice Self of Effingham was traveling on Bourgeois Drive at North Tunnel Road, about a half-mile south of the Cross when the crash occurred just before 11am. Self's car drove into gravel on the left side of the roadway, skidded off the roadway to the right into a cable guard rail and overturned. The car came to rest on its top.

Self was injured, along with his passenger, 21-year-old Kelsi Jones of Manassas, Virginia. Self was treated at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Jones was airlifted from the scene to St. Louis University Hospital.

Self was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, texting while driving, improper lane usage, and no valid driver's license.
