One Injured in Crash North of Effingham

A northern Illinois man was injured in a crash Wednesday evening north of Effingham.

82-year-old Stephen Gurney, Jr. of Crete was southbound on I-57, about four miles north of town when the crash happened just after 5:30pm. 

State police say Gurney came upon another vehicle and had difficulty braking to avoid the other unit. Gurney swerved to the right to avoid a collision. His car ran off the roadway and struck brush and some trees in the wood line to the right.

Gurney was taken for treatment to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County. He was cited for improper lane usage.
