A Wichita, Kansas woman has said "Thanks" for the help her teenaged son received while traveling through Effingham.

Monica Hayden wrote us to recognize the manager working at Casey's General Store at 1108 S. Willow on Christmas Day. Monica said she phoned "in a panic" as her son was stranded here while driving from South Bend, Indiana. They were able to get her son's vehicle towed, but weren't able to secure a ride due to the holiday. They purchased a bus ticket for their son, but couldn't find a way to get him to the bus station.

Monica wrote that she phoned the Casey's store and the manager "did not hesitate to help." She wrote that the manager "went above and beyond to extend a Christmas miracle" to her son. She said they are nine hours away from Effingham and asked whether our community does anything to recognize someone for an outstanding act.

In our response, we mentioned that the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce is celebrating its 100th anniversary, and one way the Chamber is celebrating is by requesting 100 Acts of Service. We sent this item along to the Chamber to make sure that manager gets properly recognized.

Monica indicated she plans a special thank you of her own for the manager.
