An incident at Altamont Community High School earlier this month has been blown out of proportion by a social media, according to Superintendent Jeff Fritchtnitch.

Fritchtnitch Wednesday said administrators "about a week and a half ago" heard about rumors of possible violence at the high school and "took action they felt was appropriate". He said earlier this week an item about the incident was posted on social media and "it blew up". Fritchtnitch said the post caused the incident to be "blown out of proportion".

The superintendent didn't give details about the incident. He said "it was managed" by the administration, but "it wasn't what people were saying."

Fritchtnitch said Altamont Community High School "is and continues to be a safe place." He posted an item on Facebook this week addressing the rumors.
