The Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education took action on several personnel matters at a special meeting Monday evening, and approved two student expulsions.

The Board hired Jessica Overton and Wendy Guenther as paraprofessionals, and hired Lisa Lauritzen as a Special Education teacher at the Early Learning Center.

Josh Simmons' transfer to head custodian at Effingham High School was finalized.

Several leaves were approved, including for Susie Cisna, Michelle Hinterscher, Morgan Engel and Jennifer Boerngen under the Family and Medical Leave Act and for Joe Freimuth and Diane Claar.

Resignations were accepted from Lori West as a three-hour cook at Effingham High School and from Jarielle Cameron as a teacher at the ELC as of January 2.

Also, Mary Ann Hastings' retirement as a paraprofessional was accepted effective January 3.

As to the expulsions, the Unit 40 Board expelled one student through the 2018-2019 school year, and expelled another student for two calendar years through December 11, 2019.
