The jury is now deliberating in the case of Charles Young.
The Springfield man is charged with criminal sexual assault. A charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse against Young was dismissed by prosecutors prior to the start of court proceedings this morning.
The remaining count is a Class 1 felony, punishable by up to 4 to 15 years in prison.
Closing arguments were delivered by prosecution and defense attorneys this morning before the case went to the jury.
Young, a traveling dance instructor, is accused of improper actions against a Mattoon girl who was underage at the time of the alleged offense.
