The Effingham County Board closed the books on the fiscal year Wednesday afternoon. The new fiscal year begins December 1, which is this Friday.

Some appropriations were approved to make sure enough money was in each fund to remain balanced, but Budget Committee Chairman Rob Arnold said the General Fund remained in the black. The Board also paid any remaining bills that have been incurred since the general meeting of the Board earlier this month.

The Board also learned from Chairman Jim Niemann that the question of how to pay for vehicle tracking software for Abbott Ambulance has been solved. Niemann said he was phoned last week after the issue surfaced and a man who wishes to remain anonymous said he would pay for the tracking system for up to six months. By then, it is hoped Abbott will have its own system in operation.

Board members also filled a vacancy on the County Board of Health by appointing Dr. Daniel Niebrugge to the post.
