Arrests on Drug Charges in City

Effingham City Police have made a series of drug arrests as the aftermath of traffic stops.

29-year-old Jackie Nichols of Effingham and 45-year-old Kenneth Lowe of Altamont were arrested just after 9:30pm Sunday. Each was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

City Police Chief Jeff Fuesting said a K-9 search turned up controlled substance in the vehicle.

Nichols and Lowe are due in court Wednesday.

Police arrested 40-year-old Deborah McCracken of Effingham on a count of possession of methamphetamine, as well a traffic violation for driving on a suspended license.

The arrest came after a traffic stop at 10:25pm Sunday. Fuesting said meth was found during a search of McCracken's vehicle.

McCracken is next due in court on Wednesday.

City police arrested Altamont resident Skylar Gibson at 7:15pm Saturday following a traffic stop. Cannabis was found in the vehicle. Gibson consented to have the vehicle searched, but a K-9 unit was called to aid in the search. 

Gibson was arrested on charges of possession of 100 to 500 grams of  cannabis and delivery of 30 to 500 grams of cannabis, 

Gibson is next due in court on Friday, December 1.
