Effingham resident Aaron Wilkey has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

The sentence was imposed Monday afternoon after Wilkey pleaded guilty in September to a count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

Wilkey pleaded guilty after Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler agreed to a 30-year cap on the sentence. Judge Allan Lolie imposed the 30-year term.

Wilkey admitted to a series of improper actions against an eight-year-old family member on multiple occasions since last October.

Once Wilkey's prison term is over, he will be on a term of three years to life of mandatory supervised release.

The victim's mother had agreed with the disposition of the case at the time the guilty plea was accepted, in part since the victim would not have to testify in open court.
