Rural King has announced it has finalized acquisition of Cross County Mall in Mattoon.

The acquisition was finalized on Friday.

Rural King, headquartered in Mattoon, will be moving its Store Support Center (the home office) into the former Sears location in the mall. The company currently has about 250 associates who will be working at the mall. A company press release indicates that number will grow "significantly over time". The move will occur no sooner than the fall of 2018.

The Support Center is currently located in the same facility as their Mattoon store and their Mattoon Distribution Center on the west side of the city. The store and the distribution center will remain where they are now located. The release indicates Rural King does not plan to open a store in the mall.

Rural King's plan is to serve as landlord for all mall tenants, as well as the Alamo, Taco Bell and strip center just west of Taco Bell. They also plan to continue hosting events that are currently scheduled, and will consider new events in the future.

The release also indicates plans to have all vacancies in the mall filled as soon as possible, indicating interest is high.
