Three Killed, Including Area Woman, in Crash in Washington County

Three people, including an area woman, were killed in a crash in Washington County Wednesday afternoon.

State police report the crash occurred at 4:25pm on Illinois Route 15 at Madison Road.

The area woman killed in the car was 67-year-old Patricia C. Smith of Louisville. 

Police report Smith's SUV was traveling at a reportedly high rate of speed. When Smith attempted to negotiate a curve to the right, her vehicle crossed the center line and struck a vehicle driven by 70-year-old Karen Lunte of Nashville head-on.

Both drivers were killed in the crash, along with Lunte's passenger, 65-year-old Diane Maschoff of Hoyleton.

All three of those killed were wearing their seat belts.
