State Police indicate at 9:39pm Monday night a SUV operated by a 17 year old juvenile was traveling south on North 500th Street approximately a quarter of a mile north of East 200th Avenue in Jasper County just south of Newton Lake. The vehicle drove onto the west shoulder of the roadway and then partially into the ditch on the west side of the roadway. The driver attempted to regain control of the vehicle but overcorrected while turning which put the SUV into a sideways skid. The vehicle reentered the roadway while skidding, passenger side first, eastward across the roadway then struck the ditch on the east side of the roadway and collided with a tree, which uprooted, before bringing it to a stop. The SUV overturned during the collision and came to rest on its passenger side, sitting atop the trunk of the uprooted tree.

One 16 year old juvenile from Dieterich was transported by helicopter to Carle Hospital in Champaign, IL. Jordan W. Kollman, 19 of Newton and two additional juveniles, a 15 and a 16 year old both of Dieterich, were transported to HSHS St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham by ambulance.

The juvenile driver was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed To Avoid a Crash/Too Fast for Conditions and Failure to Wear Seatbelt.

The 16 year old juvenile and 15 year old juvenile passengers were cited for Failure to Wear Seatbelt.
