A car and van collided in Jasper County Thursday night, injuring one driver.

The crash happened at 9:31pm on Illinois Route 130, a quarter-mile south of Newton.

State police report the van driven by 28-year-old Thane Griffith of Newton was traveling north on the highway approaching some bridge construction. The car, driven by 60-year-old Gertrude Murphy of Newton, was stopped for a red light at the construction zone, but Griffith's van failed to stop and rear-ended Murphy's car.

Thane Griffith was injured in the crash and was taken to Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

Griffith was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, DUI, driving on a revoked license, no seat belt, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
