Things were back to normal about 12:30pm Monday in Olney schools after a threat of violence.

Richland County School District Assistant Superintendent Chris Simpson said school officials became aware about 9:30am Monday of a "written threat of violence". The school district enacted its emergency operations plan at all buildings. Officers from Olney Police Department, Richland County Sheriff's Department and Illinois State Police and a crime scene investigator began an investigation. No violence occurred.

The district, including Olney Central College, had been on what Richland County High School Principal Chad LeCrone termed "soft lockdown status" from the time of the notification. Simpson said normal operations resumed at 12:30pm.

Police will remain in district buildings, probably for the next few days, to continue their investigation.
