Dieterich resident Scott Langford, who was sought for several days by local authorities, is now in custody.

The 33-year-old Langford was being sought on a warrant charging possession of a weapon by a felon and reckless discharge of a firearm. Authorities allege that Langford fired a weapon inside a house where others were present. An additional Class X felony count of being an armed habitual criminal has been filed against Langford.

Effingham County Sheriff Dave Mahon said Langford was arrested in a mobile home at Lakewood Manor Trailer Park at approximately 9:45pm Sunday. Mahon said Langford was taken into custody without incident.

Mahon said, "I am very proud of the work the Effingham County Sheriff's Department did over the weekend, in following up the many leads and locating the fugitive, Scott Langford. I would like to thank those good citizens of Effingham County who came forward and assisted the Sheriff's Office with information that led to his arrest. With the help of our community, we can make a difference."

The Sheriff also thanked the Effingham City Police Department and the Illinois State Police for their assistance in the joint operation that took Langford into custody.

During a brief court appearance Monday morning, Langford was given time to hire an attorney. He is due in court his attorney the morning of October 31.
