Father Brey Leaving Priesthood to be Married

Father Chris Brey is leaving the priesthood and is getting married in November.

Father Brey turned in his resignation Monday to Monsignor David Hoefler and Bishop Thomas Paprocki. According to a communication from Monsignor Hoefler to priests in the diocese, Father Brey is to talk with his school principals and staff members today, and is to leave his home at St. Mary's in Shumway by Thursday.

Monsignor Hoefler indicated in the communication that he will be in the parishes this weekend to help with Masses and will be back next weekend, as well. He plans to be at St. Anthony Parish this Saturday and Sunday and at Shumway after Saturday evening Mass.

Father Brey has been involved in the parish life in this area off and on for a number of years, and was active in the life of the Effingham community. Monsignor Hoefler is also a former parish pastor here.
