The Effingham City-County Enterprise Zone Board has reorganized for another year.

City Plan Commission Chairman Greg Kemper was again chosen to chair the Board, and Jim Zumbahlen representing a company not in the Zone was again chosen vice-chairman.

City Economic Development Director Todd Hull said an application for a new Enterprise Zone has been approved, but is yet to be certified by the State. Hull said once the new zone is certified, it will take effect and the current zone will expire. He said the hope is that the new zone will be certified by January 1. A new board will also have to be approved, although Hull said it could include those on the expiring board.

There were 12 projects undertaken in the Enterprise Zone in the last 12 months; $33 million was invested on projects within the zone, and 79 jobs were created.

Projects begun in the past 12 months occurred at Truck Centers, Inc.; Mette's Cabinet Corner; CCI Redimix; Effingham Storage Solutions; Russ' Auto Body; Koerner Distributor; Dan Hecht Chevrolet/Toyota; Effingham Express Car Wash; Goeckner Accounting; and three projects at Sherwin Williams.
