Charleston police spent Thursday evening investigating reports that shots were fired, but no evidence of any shots has been found.

Charleston Deputy Police Chief Chad Reed said several people said they heard four to five gunshots, but weren't sure where the shots came from.

Police checked local businesses in the 800 block of West Lincoln Avenue, but found no bullet holes in buildings in the area, and found no shell casings. Also, no one has been checked into area hospitals for gunshot wounds.

The matter has been referred to Charleston detectives for further investigation.
