Effingham Fire Station #1 at Fayette and Maple, as well as Effingham City Hall will be illuminated with red and blue lights this weekend, beginning tonight.

The lighting will be in honor of those firefighters who will have their names added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial this weekend in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The names of 95 firefighters from across the country will be added this year.

Every October, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation sponsors this weekend, the official national tribute to those firefighters who died in the line of duty during previous year. The weekend includes specialized activities and group sessions for the families of the firefighters, and culminates with a Memorial Service on Sunday morning. Thousands attend the programs and services each year.

Effingham Fire Chief Joe Holomy serves as the Illinois representative for the National Fallen Firefighters.
