A man spotting for an oversized vehicle traveling through Montrose was injured Wednesday morning when a sign struck him.

The incident occurred along US Route 40 at Maple Drive at 8:45am.

State police report an oversized truck tractor/trailer combination attempted to make the turn from Route 40 onto Maple Drive. The spotter for the permit move, 61-year-old Darrell Eubanks of Kell, was standing at a stop sign at the intersection directing the driver of the vehicle, 52-year-old Scott Weems of Salem. The driver side trailer wheel struck the stop sign, causing the sign to hit Eubanks.

Eubanks was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment of what was termed as a "minor injury".

Weems was cited for a permit violation.
