A teenager was injured in a single-vehicle crash in Shobonier Tuesday afternoon.

State police report the crash occurred at 4:59pm on US 51. A pickup truck driven by 22-year-old Bradin Taylor of Odin was traveling southbound when a vehicle in front of Taylor slowed to make a left turn off the highway. Taylor was unable to stop in time to avoid striking the other vehicle, so left the roadway to the right. The pickup truck struck a culvert, crossed over the intersecting road, and went into a ditch, striking a utility pole.

A 16-year-old girl from Salem riding in the pickup truck was injured and was taken to Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia. Taylor was not injured.

Taylor was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, operating an uninsured vehicle, and failure to wear a seat belt. The teenage passenger was cited for not wearing a seat belt.
