Mt. Vernon police responded Monday night to multiple reports of shots fired across the city, with reports indicating at least two people were taken to the Mt. Vernon hospital with gunshot wounds.

An arrest has been made in at least one of the incidents; 25-year-old Karim McGee of Mt. Vernon has been arrested on a charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

The reported incident came after multiple reports earlier in the evening of shots fired in another area of Mt. Vernon, and then reports a half-hour later of shots fired on two other streets.

Later Monday evening, Centralia police responded to shots fired in their city, in what was described as a “rolling gun battle” around 11:40 p.m. on the north side of town.

No injuries have been reported from that incident, but at least one vehicle and one house reportedly were shot multiple times in the incident. Numerous shell casings were reportedly found in the street.

It’s unclear at this time if the shooting incidents in Mt. Vernon are related to the incident in Centralia.
