Vasquez, Cordes Homecoming King, Queen at EHS

Two young people whose lives have been marked by tragedy were crowned Effingham High School Homecoming King and Queen Friday night.

Kourtney Cordes is the 2017 Homecoming Queen, while Lucas Vasquez was crowned Homecoming King. The coronation took place at halftime of the Homecoming football game.

Kourtney's father died in recent weeks after a battle with cancer, while Lucas' father was killed in a motorcycle crash outside Mattoon last October.

Queen Kourtney and King Lucas will reign over Saturday night's Homecoming Dance, scheduled from 8-11pm in Gym A at the high school.

Senior queen attendants are Kaylie Allred, Zoe Bridges and Grace Lybarger. Senior king escorts are Mason Hull, Danny Hortenstine and Alec Morrissey.

Junior attendants are Abby Hartke and Payton Koester, while junior escorts are Jeremiah Crowell and Donte Latham.

Sophomore attendants are Carsyn Bushue and Allison McDevitt, while sophomore escorts are Hayvin Prather and Tate Niebrugge.

Freshman attendants are Morgan Hagler and Isabella Kronewitter, while freshman escorts are Tristin Duncan and Collin Habing.
