An Effingham man has pleaded guilty to aggravated battery of a peace officer.

24-year-old Avery Nance entered the guilty plea and was placed on four years' probation for the offense, for which he was arrested in June.

Nance was also sentenced to 38 days in jail, must undergo anger management counseling, and must write a letter of apology to the officer.

Counts of aggravated fleeing or eluding a peace officer and possession of a small quantity of methamphetamine were dismissed as part of the negotiated plea.
