State Representative candidate Darren Bailey is condemning the actions of Governor Bruce Rauner who Thursday signed legislation (HB 40) aimed at allowing taxpayer funding for abortions for any reason.

Speaking Thursday, Bailey said, "Today is a terrible day for Illinois. Our Governor is disregarding his own promise on this legislation and has decided to violate the consciences of Illinois citizens who are morally opposed to abortion on demand. Why should people of faith have to pay the bill for people who want to have an abortion for any reason? I condemn the Governor’s actions today.”

House Bill 40 changes Illinois law by allowing taxpayers’ money to be used to fund abortion for any reason. Illinois law had allowed taxpayer funding for abortion only in the cases in which the life of the mother was threatened or in cases of rape. Now, individuals can get taxpayer money for abortion for any reason.

“The Governor has betrayed the trust of Illinois residents,” Bailey said. “I am not going to take any money from Governor Bruce Rauner or his political allies or from groups he funds. I think my opponent if he truly wants to stand up for the unborn should make the same commitment.”
