Stewardson-Strasburg school board members adopted a budget for the fiscal year that is "pretty much" balanced.

Superintendent Michelle Lindenmeyer said the one fund that isn't balanced is transportation. Lindenmeyer said the State's lack of funding for transportation last year, coupled with the District's need to budget for a new bus, leaves that fund unbalanced. If the State comes through with the amount promised, there shouldn't be a problem.

Sixth-day enrollment in the district is up two students from last year. There was an increase of seven students last year, so Lindenmeyer said the district is going in the right direction.

There are still some punch list items from summer maintenance projects to be addressed, especially having to do with the work around some restrooms, including tiling, baseboards, thresholds and some repainting. Lindenmeyer said the work should be completed soon.

The Stew-Stras board also discussed funds available under the new Every Student Succeeds Act and how they could be best utilized, then also discussed updating the district's strategic plan. The current plan has been in place for close to 10 years.

In personnel matters, the Stew-Stras board accepted resignations from Barry Wittenberg and Jeremy Chaney as 5th and 6th grade basketball coach and assistant coach. Shane Smith will take over the 5th and 6th grade coaching duties. The Board also hired Kenny Hayes as volunteer junior high softball coach, hired Brittany Tabbert as junior high volleyball assistant coach, and hired Aaron Blythe as Windsor/Stew-Stras assistant track coach.
