The 2017 Corvette Funfest begins today and runs through Sunday at Mid America Motorworks on North Route 45 in Effingham.

This year's Funfest is in honor of the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Corvette Sting Ray, the last of its kind. There will also be special displays for all of the Lucky 7's, models from 1957 through 2017.

One new feature is a 1/8 mile Drag Racing event tonight at Coles County Dragway in Charleston.

The Thursday Night Fun Run Road Tour will depart Funfest Boulevard Strip on a scenic route through Effingham County, then will cross the Embarras River through the Jackson Covered Bridge before parading into downtown Greenup, the Village of the Porches. Rather than the downtown Welcome Fest that has taken place in Effingham the past several years, various attractions will be available in Greenup including the Greenup Train Depot and Museum, the Military Museum, and other stops along the National Road. The Road Tour will leave Mid America at 4:30pm.

Friday night's big attraction is the annual Corvette Funfest Charity Event, to benefit the St. Jude Corvette Drive with a Las Vegas theme. The St. Jude Corvette Drive is a fundraiser for St. Jude's Children's Reseach Hospital.

Saturday night's big event will be a return performance by the World Class Rockers. The band consists of former members of Journey, Santana, Kansas, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Steppenwolf. The set will feature many of the major hits of those bands.

There will also be a variety of other events for Corvette enthusiasts, but a reminder that Funfest is also always open to the general public, including Saturday night's concert.
