Jury selection got underway Monday morning in the fitness trial for Olney resident Glenn Ramey.

The 54-year-old Ramey is charged with first degree murder and predatory criminal sexual assault in the death of an eight-year-old Olney girl last Thanksgiving Eve.

Ramey has been examined by psychologist Jerry Boyd as to his fitness. The results of Dr. Boyd's evaluation were shared with the prosecution and defense. The defense asked in May that a jury trial be held to determine whether Ramey is fit to stand trial. Once the trial was granted, both sides agreed the matter could be moved out of Richland County and Effingham County was selected as the venue.

Judge Larry Dunn along with prosecution and defense attorneys are questioning potential jurors. Once again, the jury won't be deciding Ramey's guilt or innocence, but whether he is fit to stand trial.

Ramey remains in custody under $10 million bond.
