First Christian Church of Effingham is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, and special activities are planned this weekend to mark the occasion.

An ice cream social is planned Saturday evening with homemade ice cream prepared by Troy Davis. Carroll Lewis will give a short devotional, Pee Wee Denton will play for a singalong of old-fashioned hymns such as "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder" and "Bringing in the Sheaves", and a time capsule will be opened.

Sunday morning worship will begin at 10:15am. Local historian Delaine Donaldson will be doing a first person re-enactment of W.T. Gordon, a leader in establishing several churches throughout Effingham County. Coffee and goodies will be available at 9:45am.

A feature throughout the celebration has been a salute to music from different periods of time. The journey began with songs that were popular in the mid to late 1800's, through the 20th Century, and concluding with songs popular in the 2000s. Donaldson has given a short history of the appropriate time period during the various musical salutes.
