An Effingham man has been charged with a count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

26-year-old Benjamin C. Wilson was arrested by city police early Sunday morning. He was formally charged Tuesday.

Effingham Police Chief Jeff Fuesting said the incident allegedly involved a 13-year-old girl. Fuesting said the girl and Wilson knew each other. He said the girl is safe with her family.

Fuesting said the incident allegedly occurred in the 500 block of Henrietta Street.

Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler said it's alleged that Wilson made improper physical contact with the girl. Kibler said Wilson should make his initial court appearance on Wednesday.

Judge Kimberly Koester has set Wilson's bond at $75,000.
