The trial of Effingham resident Robert Pendergast has been continued until October.

(PENDERGAST)

The 57-year-old Pendergast is charged with aggravated battery. He is charged with placing a choke hold on 53-year-old Corey Stice of Effingham during an incident at a home in Effingham in May. Stice later died.

Pendergast's trial was slated to begin Monday, but the defense requested a continuance due to what was termed "newly discovered information."

The trial is now slated to begin October. The case is next due in court for a pre-trial hearing on September 21.
