South Central school board members Wednesday heard that their high school has been recognized by US News and World Report as a bronze best high school winner.

The Board heard from high school principal Steve Phillips and Superintendent Kerry Herdes about the bronze medal win. Illinois had 14 gold medal schools, 67 silver medal schools, and 114 bronze medal schools of a total of 655 eligible schools. That puts South Central in the top 30% of high schools in the state.

In regular business, the South Central board awarded bids for fuel and commercial insurance, and heard from all three building principals on attendance being up from preliminary registration numbers this year.

In personnel moves, the South Central board accepted a resignation from Naomi Ortega as a support staff member, approved a leave of absence from Tammy Sigrist, and hired Sabrina Moore as a support staff member. The Board also approved Ken Milano, Corey Thompson, Brittany Garrett, Reed Garrett, Jamie VanScyoc, Jeremy Chasteen, Rachel Kincaid and Kelisha Amos as volunteer assistants.
