Cumberland school board members heard from Superintendent Todd Butler at this month's meeting about the need for septic system upgrades.

Butler said he's been working with the Illinois Rural Water Association on grant opportunities. He said Community and Rural Development grants are available, but said a group effort must occur with the Village of Greenup to become eligible.

Butler said he's spoken with Greenup Mayor Stacey Carl and hopes to begin work with the Village Board and their engineer on a solution.

Butler also told the Board that the District did not receive the first General State Aid payment from the State for the first time in State funding history. Nearly $200,000 should have been distributed on August 10. The next payment is due August 20.

In personnel matters, the Cumberland board accepted a letter of retirement from Wendell Kemper, and a letter of resignation from grade school cook Melissa Drum. The Board also reassigned George Hensley to the position of Maintenance Director at $48,500 annually.

The Board also voted to seek bids for a 2018 to 2023 bus lease, and approved the employee health insurance policy from Cigna.
