Habitat for Humanity of Effingham County is getting ready to build its next home, and is ready to take applications for those interested in becoming homeowners.

Habitat for Humanity is a Christian housing ministry financed through private donations. Homes are built by utilizing volunteer labor and in-kind donations. The purpose is to build houses with families and sell the homes to the family at cost so that there is no profit and no interest to families who could not otherwise afford a home.

Those who can apply are those who:

--has a housing need (no indoor plumbing, poor heating, leaky roof, overcrowding such as three to a bedroom, unsafe or unsanitary conditions)

--has lived in Effingham County for at least one year

--meets income (minimum $19,872/year, maximum $47,700 for a family of four), credit and employment requirements

--is willing to put in sweat equity hours on their home

Those interested are asked to contact Beth Funneman with any questions or to receive an application. She can be reached at bfunneman@gmail.com or 217-663-7935. The application deadline is September 30.
