A Sigel resident has been charged with firing a weapon at a semi traveling on I-57 north of Effingham.
18-year-old Dillion Hille was arrested about 9:30pm Saturday, an hour after the incident occurred. State police report Hille allegedly fired at the semi from the overpass carrying a county road over I-57 north of the Green Creek rest area. The report indicates that the driver of the rig phoned police to say he believed a gun had been fired at his vehicle. The victim gave police a description of a vehicle that was sitting on the overpass and authorities located the vehicle and Hille at an Effingham business where they took him into custody.
In court Monday morning, Hille was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm. His bond was set at $75,000, and he has already bonded out. He is due in court Wednesday morning for his first appearance with his attorney.
No one was injured in the incident, and state police said they received no other reports from drivers that any shots had been fired at them.
