Fire damaged a structure at 711 St. Anthony Avenue Monday morning.

Effingham firefighters were called to the scene around 11am. The fire damaged the front of the building.

The building is occupied by Real Estate Investment and Company. Effingham Assistant Fire Chief Matt Kulesza said a secretary was alone in the building and heard a loud pop. She went outside to check on the source of the noise and then went back in, where she saw a large amount of smoke and phoned firefighters. Kulesza said the secretary was checked for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is still being determined.

Firefighters were on the scene for a little more than an hour.
