The man shot early Friday morning in Ramsey has died of his injuries.

Joshua K. Smith of Ramsey was shot with a handgun. He was initially taken to Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia, but was later transferred to a hospital in St. Louis, where he died of his injuries Friday afternoon.

24-year-old Alexander Beccue of St. Elmo has been arrested for the shooting. Beccue was taken into custody about 1pm Friday when he returned to a residence where he had been staying. The arrest was made without incident.

Beccue was arrested on charges of attempted first degree murder, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and possession of a weapon by a felon.

Fayette County State's Attorney Joshua Morrison said by phone late Friday night that Beccue is due to be arraigned on the charges Monday morning in Fayette County Circuit Court. Morrison said he plans to amend the charges to include first degree murder.

Morrison said earlier Friday that there were witnesses to the shooting.

Ramsey police, Secretary of State Police and Illinois State Police have assisted Fayette County Sheriff's Department in the investigation into the shooting.
