Especially when you factor in two interruptions due to rain, the 2017 Effingham County Relay for Life was a huge success.

The start of the event was delayed by showers, then a second rainfall came during this year's Survivor speech, but the big crowd still hung around to turn the event into a special night.

Sarah Lucht of the American Cancer Society said, "One of the coolest moments was seeing everyone stick around through the two rain delays. It really captured the reason why we Relay, to honor our cancer survivors and remember those we have lost!"

The current totals for this year's Relay: $106,292 has been raised...300 cancer survivors took part...49 teams participated...and 551 people were on hand.

Lucht reminds the season doesn't officially end until August 31, so those numbers could grow.
