Effingham Park Board Director Jeff Althoff said his staff had a goal of 40 children per week taking advantage of Adventure Camp, a new offering from the district this summer.

Instead, attendance averaged 65 kids per week.

Adventure Camp involved outdoor activities for young people at Evergreen Hollow Park, as well as outings to other locations.

Althoff said parents' only complaint was that the program ended a week too soon. He said parents would have rathered the program had lasted until closer to the start of school. He said they'll remedy that for next summer.

Other than that, Althoff said the program received "rave reviews". He said they loved it that their kids were busy outside "doing something".

The Board and Althoff discussed upgrades needed at Kluthe Memorial Pool. Althoff said the pool is more than 20 years old, meaning improvements will soon be needed in the pump room and to some of the play equipment. Cost estimates will be obtained before any work will begin. Althoff said the pool has "never been a money-maker".

Jake Junghanel of Rink Management reported things are going well at the Workman Sports and Wellness Complex. Junghanel said the complex was $30,000 in the black as of May, compared to $30,000 in the red a year ago.
