Royalty abounds at the Effingham County Fair, which opens Satuday at Altamont.

There might be only nine contestants for Miss Effingham County Fair Queen, but the numbers are big in the younger ranks.

There are 22 contestants in the Junior Miss Pageant on Sunday night, and 31 Little Misses will be a part of the Fair Queen Pageant on Tuesday night.

The queen contestants are Kacie Phillips, daughter of Lois Phillipps and the late Mark Phillips of Altamont; Lindsey Stephenson, daughter of Terry and Jeanine Stephenson of Effingham; Elizabeth Brackney, daughter of Bill and Lisa Brackney of Beecher City; Shayna Phillips, daughter of Glen and Jeni Phillips of Effingham; Maria Lueken, daughter of Bob and Donna Lueken of Teutopolis; Jodi Thoele, daughter of Tony and Sue Thoele of Dieterich; Anna Wines, daughter of Jason and Kathy Wines of Watson; Kirstin Lindsey, daughter of Michael and Tori Lindsey of Effingham; and Serena Strullmyer, daughter of daughter of Joe and Sherri Strullmyer of Altamont.

The Junior Miss Pageant will begin at 8pm Sunday. Our own Courtney Koester will serve as emcee. The Queen Pageant and Little Miss Pageant will begin at 7pm Tuesday with our own Greg Sapp serving as emcee.
