73rd Effingham County Fair is Here

A recognized hitmaker in Rodney Atkins as headliner, cooler weather in the forecast and more horse racing than is offered at any other fair in the state are three reasons to consider spending plenty of time this coming week at the 73rd Effingham County Fair at Altamont.

The fair will run from Saturday to Saturday.

Evening attractions will include, by day:

Saturday--Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League action at 6:30pm

Sunday--Parade at 4:30pm, Master Showmanship in the 4-H Arena at 6pm, the Talent Show at 6:30pm, and the Junior Miss Pageant at 8pm

Monday--Hasting's Filters and Dust and Son Truck, Tractor and Garden Tractor Pull at 6:30pm

Tuesday--Miss Effingham County Fair Queen Pageant and Little Miss Pageant at 7pm

Wednesday--Hasting's Filters and Dust and Son Truck, Tractor and Antique/Blower Class Pulling at 6:30pm

Thursday--Rodeo action at 7pm

Friday--Country singing star Rodney Atkins at 8pm, with opening act Bill Poss at 7pm

Saturday, the 12th--Power Wheels Derby at 6:15pm, and the 50th Annual Demolition Derby at 6:30pm.

Six days of horse racing action is on tap again this year. Harness racing is set for Sunday through Thursday with post time at 1pm each day. Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing is scheduled Friday with a 12 noon post time. A reminder that if you can't attend in person, the race action can be heard Sunday on 979XFM and Monday through Friday on KJ Country 102.3. 

Other attractions, by day, will include:

Saturday--Car Show at 9am, Ranch Sorting at 10am, Mid America Jumper from Noon to 10pm

Sunday--Church in the 4-H Arena at 8am, Mid America Jumper from Noon to 10pm, Ranch Sorting at 10am, Rob Thompson Magic Act at 2, 4 and 6pm

Monday--Mid America Jumper from Noon to 10pm

Tuesday--First day of the Carnival

Saturday, the 12th--Kids and Teens Day sponsored by Effingham County School Resource Officers 

There will also be acts on the Free Stage at 7pm on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, the 12th.

Saturday--Class J Agriculture, Class K Horticulture, Class L Floriculture, Class M Photography, Art, Handicraft, and the like, Class M-2 Textiles, Class O Culinary and Class P Youth Department at 11am; Class H Boer Goat at 12:15pm; PeeWee Showmanship at 3pm; Class H Dogs at 5pm

Sunday--4-H Beef Show at Noon, and Master Showmanship at 6pm

Monday--Class A Beef Cattle and Class H Beef Cattle at 7:45am; Class F Sheep at 7:45am; Class H Swine--Carcass Class at 7:45am; Class H Poultry/Waterfowl, Pigeons/Doves at 8am; Class H Sheep at 12:30pm

Tuesday--Class H Market Barrows/Breeding Stock at 7:30am; Class H Dairy Goats at 9:15am

Wednesday--Class H Cats at 8am; Class H Rabbits at 8am; 4-H Auction at 5:30pm

Thursday--Class H Dairy Cattle at 9am; Class U Dairy Goats at 9am; Class H Pygmy Goats at 1pm

Friday--Class B Dairy Cattle at 8am; 4-H Llama Show at 9am

Saturday, the 12th--Class H Horse at 8:30am
