The Fayette County Emergency Telephone Systems Board (ETSB) will begin the final landline telephone call through testing of the Enhanced 911 System for Fayette County in the next couple of weeks.

No date has been set but they hope to begin the testing the week of August 14th.

Law requires the Fayette County Emergency Telephone Systems Board to test random landline phone numbers in each exchange in the county before they can go live with the Enhanced System. This is to test the accuracy of the addresses in the telephone database.

This testing will require the cooperation of the public. 911 representatives along with 911 Dispatchers with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and the Vandalia City Police Department will be calling random landline telephone numbers and requesting residents to call a seven digit phone number. This seven digit phone number will call into the 911 Call Taking System which will display the address where the phone is located. Once the address and phone number are verified, the call will end. Once the required testing has been completed, the State will give final approval to go live with the Enhanced 911.

The public’s cooperation is imperative in the quick completion of the testing phase. The Fayette County ETSB would like everyone to spread the word that if you should receive this call from the 911 Centers, it is not a scam and that you please cooperate.

If anyone has any questions, please call the 911 Coordinator, Kevin Jenne at 618-283-7241.
