Ham Jam Off to Great Start; Full Day of Events Saturday

The 2017 EffinghamHAM JAM is off to a great start, with a big crowd populating the downtown area Friday evening. A full day of activities is planned on Saturday.

Friday highlights included the Hometown Throwndown, where five amateur teams competed for bragging rights. Music by the band E.S.P. and Schottman's sweet corn added to the evening, and there were several other vendors, as well.

Saturday will feature the official Kansas City Barbecue Society BBQ competition from noon to 2pm with awards to be presented at 4pm.

A reminder of the Pigs and Pancakes Breakfast being served by the Effingham Noon Rotary Club from 8 to 10am. There will be kids activities including a Power Wheels Derby from 1 to 2pm, an Arts and Crafts area from 1 to 3pm, and a Kids Q BBQ Competition from 2 to 4pm. There will be a Dilly Bar Contest from 1 to 2pm, music by The Experienced from noon to 3pm, and more Schottman's Sweet Corn from 11am to 2pm.

Other activities will include the Farmer's Market open from 7am to noon this week only, and the Courthouse Museum open from 10am to 2pm.

You can also register for a grill to be given away at a later date by the Chamber Ambassadors.
