Probation, including county jail time, was the result for two local individuals arrested last fall in a string of burglaries from vehicles.

Nathaniel Martin and Ryan Harris, both age 20 and both of Effingham, were arrested last October by Effingham City Police following after suspicious subjects were seen entering vehicles in a parking lot in the 1200 block of North Merchant.

The arrests came at the end of what authorities at the time termed "a rash of thefts and burglaries" in the preceding week. The breakins were to vehicles as well as homes and businesses.

Martin was placed on 30 months' probation, including fines, restitution and drug evaluation and treatment. Harris was placed on two years' probation including 92 days in jail, as well as drug and alcohol evaluation and treatment, and restitution. Both defendants have to complete public service work.
