Two Crown Point, Indiana residents were injured in a crash east of Effingham Monday morning.

State police report a pickup truck driven by 70-year-old Lawrence Kupchik was traveling east on I-70 at 8:40am when his vehicle ran off the roadway to the right and struck a guardrail face. After striking the guardrail, Kupchik overcorrected to the left and then back to the right. The vehicle then ran off the road to the right and overturned. The pickup truck came to rest on its top in a ditch.

Kupchik told police he either blacked out or fell asleep.

Kupchik's wife, 65-year-old Sandra Kupchik, was also injured in the crash. Teutopolis firefighters had to cut the passenger door off the truck to get Sandra Kupchik out of the vehicle.

Both occupants were injured and were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Lawrence Kupchik was cited for improper lane usage.
